Christina Hamilton
Christina Hamilton joined Gephardt Government Affairs in 2011, after a lengthy tenure on Capitol Hill. She brings extensive political and legislative experience, with a special focus on the appropriations and budget process.
Having served as Chief of Staff to U.S. Representative Dave Obey, Christina was a principal strategic advisor to one of the longest serving Members of Congress and one of the longest serving leaders of the House Appropriations Committee. Christina advised on hundreds of state, national and international policies and priorities across the entire $1.3 trillion federal budget as the 12 appropriations bills were shepherded through Congress each year. She developed a keen understanding of both the politics and policy that go into federal decision making during several crucial time periods including the aftermath following the attacks on 9-11, and the economic crisis leading to the passage of the Economic Recovery Act in 2009. Given the looming challenges posed by the federal budget crisis, our clients rely on her know-how to navigate the Committee and related agencies successfully throughout the federal government’s budget and appropriations processes.
During her time on Capitol Hill, she managed appropriation requests for Wisconsin on issues including health care, education, transportation & infrastructure, environment and job creation projects. And as a principal advisor to the Chairman of the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education subcommittee, she had a hand in crafting numerous legislative proposals and communications strategies related to the bill, which has jurisdiction over public health service agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, as well as the Departments of Education and Labor.
