Gephardt Government Affairs has added three new hires to the growing 2-year-old firm founded by former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt (D-Mo.).
"The only other person that I regard as highly as Dick is Chris Dodd, who's like family to me," said Janice O'Connell, one of the three who's joining the firm as senior vice president. "The opportunity to work closely with Dick was one that I couldn't say no to."
Joining O'Connell are Joel Freedman, as a consultant, and Catherine Goode, as vice president.
O'Connell, who retired after 30 years working in the Senate, was most recently senior international adviser at Hogan & Hartson. She had worked on the Senate Foreign Relations and Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs committees, including a stint with Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) as his senior foreign policy and national security adviser.
At Gephardt, O'Connell will oversee international clients, specializing in U.S.-Latin American relations. She'll work alongside Goode, who joins the international affairs team and will oversee strategic communications. Goode had been a director at Quinn Gillespie & Associates.
Freedman, who retired after 25 years at the Hartford Financial Services Group in Connecticut, will now oversee Gephardt's financial services clients.
"Just because I'm in my 60s and retired doesn't mean I was planning to stop working," Freedman told us. "Working in Washington just felt like a natural fit."
Healthcare industry leaders are pressing the White House to get more involved with promoting healthcare innovation, saying the U.S. leads the world but faces growing challenges.
